The Storage Challenge

Automotive parts suppliers and manufacturers often manage extremely high SKU counts alongside non-standard containers, all while maximizing storage density across large, multi-building facilities.

High SKU Count with Variable Pallet Depths

Automotive parts operations frequently manage tens of thousands of SKUs, each with different pallet counts, requiring a mix of lane depths rather than a single standard configuration.

Non-Standard Containers

Steel bins and totes are common in automotive and manufacturing environments, requiring roller-based systems rather than standard wheels.

Maximizing Density Across Large Facilities

Multi-building operations need both vertical and horizontal space maximized, often through a combination of high-density and high-selectivity storage in the same facility.

Explore the Systems

The systems most commonly specified for automotive and manufacturing applications across North America.

Pallet Flow Racking

Well-suited to high-volume, single-SKU manufacturing runs, and available with roller configurations for steel bins or other non-standard containers.

Why it fits

High-volume single-SKU production, roller options for non-standard containers, configurable lane depth.

Pushback Racking

A proven fit for automotive and manufacturing environments, delivering high density and multi-SKU storage from a single aisle.

Why it fits

Multi-SKU density, maximum use of vertical space with floor-mounted lanes, proven in large-scale, high-SKU-count installations.

Carton Flow Racking

For case-level and small parts picking in automotive and manufacturing environments, well-suited to fasteners, hardware, and other small components requiring dense, accessible storage.

Why it fits

Case-level picking for small parts, compact pick face, complements pushback and pallet flow for full-pallet storage.

Cold Storage

Seven Warehouses Into One High-Density Hub

Mevotech is a leading Canadian aftermarket auto parts manufacturer specializing in driveline, steering, and suspension components. With over 80,000 SKUs and a target of 100 new items monthly, Mevotech supports global distribution from its Ontario-based facilities.

The Challenge

Rapid growth and SKU proliferation had spread inventory across seven warehouses in the GTA. This created operational inefficiencies and mounting pressure to reduce touchpoints and improve space utilization. Mevotech needed to consolidate into a centralized facility with a flexible, high-density storage system, within a tight installation timeline.

The Solution

In 2017, Mevotech acquired two adjacent facilities near Toronto Pearson Airport—one for raw materials and the other for finished goods. 3D Storage Solutions, working in conjunction with 3D Storage Systems, was selected to design and execute a multi-rack solution that included selective racking, pushback, pallet flow, and VNA storage. The system was designed collaboratively, with real-time inventory slotting and phased implementation to allow seamless transfer of goods from legacy facilities.
